We actually wanted to get another bun so Daruma would learn more about his species better and we were planning to buy another one, but we met Alpaca through a rabbit rescue organization I'm in. Daruma came with me to a pet expo and we helped around in the booth of the rabbit rescue and we met Alpaca there. People were interested on adopting him but then it was weird because it was like people suddenly rejected him even tho he's a very lovely and beautiful bunny. Then the rescue president told me that Alpaca used to be abused by his previous owner (TW: He removed his teeth with pliers so he wouldn't chew on wood, kicked him and broke his ribs and left him hungry and in a small cage so he developed kidney problems and skin issues, he had to be hospitalized for 5 months after his rescue), and because of that abuse, he needed special care and nobody wanted him because of that. So I felt mad at people and I promised that after my big con, I would use the con money to adopt him. So well... My con went well and I adopted him, and I even if his medicines can be expensive at times I don't regret anything. In fact, I sell bunny washi tape now and I plan to make more bunny merch so I can support Alpaca's medical expenses and the rest will go to support the rabbits from the rescue house.
They really are unpopular pets and people think that they are rodents that need to be caged and that they are just cute pets that do anything interesting compared to cats or dogs. But honestly, people need to learn how caring and smart these creatures are and how empathic they are when they see that you're sad. Well, in my case I talk for Alpaca, because Daruma is an extraordinary case because he thinks he's a child and he's even more sensitive than your average bun, but honestly any bun can become like that if you give them extra care.
Hope to see pics of your bun! I love seeing other people's buns and listen to their stories because buns deserve all the love! jdfhsdjf Sorry, such a pain in the ass when it comes to buns.

That sounds miserable, I'm so sorry. I'm really happy you're feeling better, and you have a new addition to your family that makes you even happier! I have so much respect for those who rescue and adopt bunnies, there's nothing that breaks my heart more than reading about bunnies who are abused and/or killed, it makes me sick to my stomach... )8 Those poor little guys.
THAT... PISSES ME OFF SO MUCH TOO OH MY GOD that all of those people were suddenly uninterested in adopting after learning about the past abuse and medications required, I guess.. you just gotta hope it was due to the people not making enough money to feel comfortable taking care of the bunny, and not the more obvious reason, but it's hard... Alpaca is one strong and beautiful bunny, oh my god, he's been through so much, it's a miracle he's still here. You're amazing for taking care of him like this, and giving him the love he deserves that no one else was willing to give. (I want to personally kick the ass of his previous owner who hurt him like this tho) Bless your heart, I'd love to see your future bunny merch, too! I wish I could support bunnies with money as well, but bc of my mental illnesses I'm unable to get a job and really do anything...
I've noticed that about my bunny, too! He seems to always know when I'm sad, somehow. Even though I'm sad like all of the time bc of depression he somehow knows when I'm sadder than usual. HE'S AN ANGEL...
My bunny is extremely spoiled too, because... unfortunately he gets sick... a lot. He's been hospitalized more times than I can count, and he's put me and my dad in trouble w/money from having to pay for all of those times, but he's worth it. He's family to us, too! Poor guy has a lot of trouble with e cuniculi, just when you think it's gone, it comes back, and again... he's always taking a lot of medicines, and we take him to the vet ASAP when we notice he's acting strange. My dad has even learned how to give him fluids at home, so we give those to him a few times a week, the vet is in on all of this and approves of it of course. Between the medicine and the fluids my bunny has been doing better than earlier in the year lately, thank god.

More than the economic thing with Alpaca, it was the whole thing of him not having teeth since no one asked beyond the whole teeth thing. Still, he's safe and happy with us, which is the important thing. Now that the weather is colder, he wants to be held a lot. During Summer he hated to be held but because he felt overwhelmed from the temperature and felt even hotter when we held him. Compared to Daruma, Alpaca is much calmer and is a lap bunny. Daruma is more like a human child that wants all the attention. But well, he is the spoiled baby especially since he formerly used to fall ill when he was a baby but now he's healthy and strong as a rock. Just that he's so used to the care he had that he still wants to be treated as a baby. Alpaca in the other hand is more calm and just likes to cuddle and give you kisses and sometimes he gets overwhelmed by Daruma's hyperactivity.
Awww, Fluffy really seems like a good bun. And thank God the e cuniculi didn't affect him physically. I always get scared about that because of the permanent neck issues and things like miasis. Bunny care can be expensive but it is worth it since they are really like your family. And it is nice that your Dad helps!
